Below are links to my literature review, my senior paper, and my senior digital presentation. The topic of my literature review was Bibliotherapy which is the use of books as therapy for children. I investigated what bibliotherapy is, who facilitates the use of bibliotherapy, when to use it, and the benefits. The content of my literature review was used to help create the guiding questions for my senior paper and presentation. These research projects investigated what types of literature teachers use when working with social and behavioral issues and how teachers use children's literature to guide students' learning. I worked with three other education students to complete the projects. Our data was collected from four open-ended teacher interviews and a 15 question survey for teachers that consisted of both closed-ended and open-ended questions about the use of literature in the classroom. We used the results of both the interviews and the survey to conclude that teachers use literature the most in reading and writing. Very few teachers used literature for behavioral and social needs, but many indicated that they would be interested in learning more about bibliotherapy. We compiled our data into a paper and then used the information from our paper to create a 20 minute digital presentation of our findings.

Below is a link to my Diagnosis and Reading case study. Due to the size of the file, the case study has been uploaded in four parts. In this case study, I looked at the needs of a 4th grade student who was not verified for special education services. The student was demonstrating writing skills at the first grade level. I used writing samples as a benchmark for his writing development. Through my case study, I worked with the student on parts of a sentence, capitalization, punctuation, and writing complete, grammatically correct sentences. To show student progress, I collected a sample of each activity and I collected a work sample at the end of the study. The student was able to write complete sentences and write a paragraph on the topic of his choice.

Below is a link to my student teaching case study. The study focused on math in the first grade classroom where I completed my student teaching placement. The lessons in the case study were focused on the topic of how many in all, or single digit addition problems up to a sum of 20. The activities included finding combinations for adding with the same sum, story problems with a sum up to 20, and single and double digit addition problems with a sum up to 20. I used a pretest to assess what students already knew for each component of the study. I used the in class activities as formative assessment for each skill and the Cumulative Summative Assessment (CSA) was the summative assessment for all components of the case study. At the end of the study, all 19 of the students in the case study were at or above grade level in all areas of the unit.
